Simple Solutions to CameraWare Questions

Written by: Staff

CameraWare software is written and upgraded continually to meet the changing needs of its broadcasters and viewers.  Due to its intense use of resources, occasionally the user runs into minor problems. Listed below are common viewing questions and their simple solutions.

How do I see a live video image?
You will see a picture of a globe, keyboard and a hand. Below the keyboard, you will see the phrase 'Click here>>>Choose A Camera'. Click on the phrase 'Click here>>>Choose A Camera' and a list of names will pop up. Left click on a name to select it. You can keep the Channel Selection window up by putting a check mark next to Surf.

I don’t see the keyboard/globe graphic to the left, only a gray box.
CameraWare strongly prefers Internet Explorer rather than Netscape. If a gray box appears on Explorer, first try to refresh your browser by clicking on Refresh. (You can also do a shifted-Refresh by holding down the shift key and clicking on Refresh. It is a more effective way of refreshing your browser) If this doesn’t work, you need to clear your cache. This is done by clicking on Tools, Internet Options, Temporary Internet Files, then finally Delete Temporary Internet Files. Close all IE windows and re-start it.

How fast should the images update?
Depending on your Internet connection, images should update every 3-5 seconds. CameraWare has provided a way for you to check how often images are updated for you. Bring up the video image Islander Time. Watch the clock to see how fast your connection allows you to see updates!

How do I zoom?
Position the cursor pointer over the video image and left click. Each left click will zoom you in a little more. To zoom back out, right click.

How do I rewind?
Leave a live video image running for a few moments, and you can rewind up to 50 frames. At the bottom right of the video image, you will see a green square. Left click on that green box several times to rewind the video several frames. You can advance the video by right clicking on the yellow box until it turns to green again or just by clicking on the Choose A Camera menu again.

I see an image, but it isn’t moving.
If the image is of a teddy bear or a piece of cardboard with some writing on it, chances are it won’t move much. Click on the white rectangle with the video name at the bottom of the video image. This will bring up the list of broadcasters again. Choose another image. If this continues to be a problem for you, you can clear your Internet Explorer cache. This is done by clicking on Tools, Internet Options, Temporary Internet Files, and then finally Delete Temporary Internet Files. Close all IE windows and re-start it.

I saw a live image, then it froze and was eventually replaced with a white box that says ‘No Image’.
This means the broadcaster shut off their cam. Click on the white rectangle with the video name at the bottom of the video image. This will bring up the list of broadcasters again. Choose another image.

How do I chat with the people I see?
CameraWare offers broadcasters two ways to hint where they are chatting.  If there is a URL posted to the left of their video image, you can click on that URL to bring up their website. They may also choose to put the name of the CameraWare Community to the right of their video name (example: GirlieGirl (Nightspice)). The broadcasters are under no obligation to hint where they are chatting. If the broadcaster chooses not to hint where they are chatting, you will get to explore the different Communities to find them. A list of CameraWare Communities can be found at http://www.cameraware.com/sites.html .

What does the Secret Code mean and how do I get it?
Some broadcasters prefer not to be seen by the general public and want to pick and choose who can see their live video. They make up a Secret Code and share it only with the people they want to watch them. The Tech Support room does NOT have access to these Secret Codes. The only way to find out the Secret Code is to find out where the broadcaster is chatting and sweet talk them into letting you watch too!
