Simple Solutions to CameraWare Applet Questions:
Making a Closed Community.

Written by: Alynna

Why choose a Closed Community?
When a broadcaster logs in using the CameraWare Video Sender software, their video images can be seen from any public viewing area. A Closed Community broadcaster cannot be seen from the public viewing area. When the regular CameraWare video applet in pasted to a page, all public Broadcasters will show up on your Channel Menu list. You would choose a Closed Community if you wanted only the people on your site to appear on the Channels Menu. So if you choose to put a Closed Community applet on your site, only your broadcasters will appear on the Channel Menu and their broadcasts can only be seen from your site.

This can be accomplished in 3 easy steps:
Copy the CameraWare Applet HTML Code - Closed Community
Edit the site name on this line: <param name="category" value="p-betaworld_all">
Login using the CameraWare Video Sender software

For better understanding of these steps, let’s break it into pieces.
Copy the Applet found on http://www.cameraware.com/webmasters/webmasters.html entitled CameraWare Applet HTML Code - Closed Community. Paste it to the source code of your webpage.
Edit the site name. Look for the line of code that says <param name="category" value="p-betaworld_all"> Replace the work 'betaworld' with the exact name of your community.

If the name of your community is 'birdwatchers', this line:
<param name="category" value="p-betaworld_all">

Needs to be edited so it reads:
<param name="category" value="p-birdwatchers_all">

This line of code causes the applet to look for cameras that fit a certain criteria. Let’s take it apart a little to see what parts it looks for. The first part of the line is <param name="category" value=". That is telling the applet to look for broadcasters who have logged in on their CameraWare Video Sender software a certain way and ignore everyone else.

The "p-' in the line of code makes the community private. When the broadcaster logs in correctly, their video image will only be seen on your site and cannot be seen on the public Channel Menu.

The '_all' refers to Category the broadcaster has chosen when they log in. If the line were to read <param name="category" value="p-betaworld_couples"> then only broadcasters who have logged in as Category: Couples on their CameraWare Video Sender software would show up.

Exact spelling of the community name is necessary; if the community name in the applet is not spelled exactly the same was as the Community Name the broadcaster logs in his or her CameraWare Video Sender software, their video will not appear on your site.

Logging in

Login Name: Choose a login name. This does not appear on the Channel Menu
Password: Please choose a password of 4 digits or more. Combination of numbers and letters is best.
Broadcast name: Choose a Broadcast name. This is the name that appears on the Channel Menu.

Adult Content: By Default the Adult Content is checked.

Community: Name of Community - CameraWare applet code MUST contain this community. Our example Community was named birdwatchers. If the broadcaster enters in anything different, like birdwatcher or bidwatchers, their broadcast name will NOT show up on the Channel Menu list.
Closed Community: Place a check mark here. This restricts the broadcaster’s    video image to ONLY your site.
Category: Choose your broadcast category - Anything except Private.
Text Area: Enter some text here describing the broadcast - Include any URL's or contact information.
