Q. Why do the images inside the CameraWare Standalone Viewer freeze after
5 minutes? It's driving me crazy!
A. Yep, this happens when you run the free trial version of the CameraWare
Standalone Viewer. You can see if you are running the trial CameraWare license
by looking inside the "Enter License Key" dialog box that appears each time you run the viewer
program. If the Name field has the word "Trial" inside of it, then you are running the trial license.
To avoid the annoyance of having to restart the CameraWare Standalone Viewer
every 5 minutes, you can purchase a CameraWare License.
It's a super value... and you'll love it!
Q. When I use the CameraWare Standalone Viewer, the cloned windows are
not refreshing properly. Only the viewer/clone window that has the focus
will refresh. Why is that?
A. Usually a pop-up or Ad blocker program will cause this behaviour with
the clone windows in the CameraWare Standalone Viewer program. We do
know that for some people, running Norton Internet Security 2003 and
enabling Ad Blocker is a problem. By disabling Ad Blocker, the refresh
problem should be resolved.
Also, we have heard of one user who had this problem while Yahoo
Messenger was running, but have only come across this as a cause one
time.
Check to see what third party ad/pop-up blocker software you are
running, and try disabling it and then run the CameraWare Standalone
Viewer with clones to see if all windows will update once again. Note
that the banner ad running across the top of the clone windows should
also be displayed. If it is not that's a good clue it's an ad blocker
program.
We have tested and found the popup blocker software from www.google.com to work
just fine with the CameraWare Standalone Viewer.
Q. How do I use the CameraWare Standalone Viewer?
A. Check out our
CameraWare Standalone Viewer Tutorial
for detailed instructions on how to run the program and utilize
all of it's super groovy and cool features! You can rewind, zoom, view
full-screen or small, and a bunch more. Eepa!
Q. Why do I get the error message "Authentication server not
responding. Please try again in 5 minutes." when I run the Standalone Viewer?
A. You will receive this error message if:
- You are running a firewall program such as Black Ice,
Zone Alarm or Norton Security (to name a few).
You will need to either disable your firewall program completely,
or configure it to allow relay.cameraware.com
as a trusted server.
- Our video relay server or Internet connection is temporarily down.
Try loading a free viewer on our
website to see if you can load it and view CameraWare live images there.
- There is a temporary Internet connection problem on the path
between your PC and our server. Try completely rebooting your computer, along
with your modem & router (if you use a router). It's always a good
thing to do the reboots of your equipment first when things aren't going
right.
If you are not running a firewall program, and can load the
video applet on our website, and your trace route makes it all
the way, you may consider testing connecting to the Internet using
a different ISP. Some viewers have experienced
their current ISP has somehow blocked their access to our server.
Switching ISPs solved their viewer authentication problem.
Q. What is the image refresh rate using the CameraWare Standalone Viewer?
A. Depending on your Internet connection speeds,
the top viewed broadcasts on CameraWare refresh between 2-3 seconds.
All other broadcasts refresh between 5-10 seconds.
Q. I am running Windows Vista, and everytime
I change channels in the broadcast menu (using the Standalone Viewer
program) a sound beeps. How do I stop this?
A. Windows Vista has a "sound mixer" where you
can enable and disable Windows sounds. You can usually open the Mixer by
clicking on the audio icon in the bottom right of the computer screen by
the clock display. You may have to experiment with the different
settings to find the one that turns off the beeping when you change
channels on CameraWare.
Q. How do I view closed community broadcasts inside the
CameraWare Standalone Viewer?
A. Closed Community broadcast images cannot be seen inside
the CameraWare Standalone Viewer program. You can only
view these images on websites that contain the specially
configured free CameraWare viewers.
Q. Why do I only have a few channels listed inside the
CameraWare Standalone Viewer Channel Menu?
A. Make sure that you do not have the Top Cams check box
selected inside the Channel Menu. Also place
a checkmark inside the checkboxes beside All in the Category
and Ratings sections in the Channel Menu to
display all channels. See our
CameraWare Standalone Viewer Tutorial
for a tutorial on how to use all the amazing features of the CameraWare Standalone Viewer and
Channel Menu.
Q. How do I chat with the people I am watching on CameraWare?
A. First, you need to be in the same chatroom as the broadcaster.
Many of the video broadcasters are in
chatrooms on other websites and will enter text directing you to
where they are chatting. This is found in the blue area to
the left of their video image. If the broadcaster has
entered a URL there, it is clickable and could lead you directly
to the website they are chatting in!
Often broadcasters can be found having fun in one of our community chatrooms.
Click on the Chat button on the standalone viewer to open a webpage
with a chatroom on it. Instructions are on that webpage to join some of the
more popular chatrooms who have requested they be listed there.
Broadcasters who do not enter any information directing viewers to their location are most
likely not available to chat at that particular time.
Q. How do I remove slideshows from the channel menu?
A. Removing the checkmark beside Slides in the Channel Menu will eliminate
the slideshows and pre-recorded video broadcasts from the list. See our
CameraWare Standalone Viewer Tutorial for a tutorial on how to use
all the features of the CameraWare Standalone Viewer program.
